Integrative Mental Health Consultant
For over three decades I have dedicated my career to advancing research and clinical practice on how nutrition, lifestyle, plant-based medicines, nutraceutical supplements, and emerging therapies can be safely and effectively used to support mental health.
I am driven by a simple goal: ensuring that mental health care is evidence-informed, authentic, and augmented by lived experience.
I completed a Doctorate at The University of Queensland specialising in integrative approaches for mood and anxiety disorders, and Postdoctoral training at The University of Melbourne and at Harvard Medical School (in the depression research program), in addition to Postgraduate Studies in Psychology at Monash University. This followed my previous studies and clinical work as a Naturopath, Acupuncturist, Nutritionist, and Exercise Instructor.
During my time as Professor of Integrative Mental Health at NICM Research Institute I conducted many clinical trials in the field, and was privileged to shape international practice by leading the clinical guidelines for nutraceutical and plant-based medicine for psychiatric disorders (WFSBP/CANMAT)- contributing also to European Commission’s Depression Treatment Taskforce.
Returning to a clinical consultancy role at Evergreen Doctors feels like a natural full-circle. After years of running studies and writing clinical guidelines, what I love most is sitting down with one person, looking at the whole picture, and helping them find a way forward that actually fits their life. I strive to translate complex science into clear, compassionate pathways that help people find their way forward.
My five core areas of speciality include:
Mood disorders- depression, anxiety, insomnia and chronic stress
Cognitive concerns and ADHD screening (with onward referral for formal diagnostic assessment where indicated)
Healthy brain aging
Mental health optimisation and wellness- for people who are functioning well, though want to feel sharper, calmer, and more resilient
Where relevant, considered guidance and referral pathways for medicinal cannabis and psychedelic-assisted therapies
I see adults (18+) who are clinically stable and, where appropriate, already supported by a treating clinician- my role is adjunctive rather than first-line. For paediatric, adolescent, acute, or crisis presentations, our reception team can suggest more suitable referral pathways.
Every consultation runs on my biopsychosocial assessment framework, providing a structured review of your Physical, Mental, Lifestyle and Social health, supported by validated clinical scales.
Rather than narrowing in on a single symptom, this gives us a full map of what’s driving how you’re feeling, and where the most useful leverage points sit.
You’ll be provided with a written visual report tailored to you, including integrative treatment recommendations, practical lifestyle and psychosocial advice, and if needed- targeted referrals- either back to your existing care team (GP, psychiatrist, psychologist) or out to relevant clinical modalities.
My role is not to replace the people already supporting you, but to add a research-led, whole-person approach that brings the best of integrative and conventional medicines, lifestyle and emerging therapies into one clear plan.
You have the incredible opportunity to have Jerome consult on your case.
